What is the PVG Scheme?
The Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020 updates and strengthens the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme to enhance safety for children and vulnerable adults. Key changes, effective April 1, 2025, make PVG scheme membership mandatory for all regulated roles, introduce five-year renewal periods, and streamline disclosure processes while protecting individual privacy.
Key Changes Under the 2020 Act
- Mandatory Membership:
From April 1, 2025, it is a legal requirement to be a member of the PVG Scheme to perform a regulated role with children or protected adults. - 5-Year Renewal:
PVG membership will now be renewed every five years, rather than being for life. - Regulated Roles:
The Act replaces the term "regulated work" with "regulated roles" to define roles requiring checks.
